28: Monica McGee - ASL Teacher

Episode 28 brings us TVA's very own ASL teacher Mrs. Monica McGee. 

We discuss how American Sign Language was not her first choice in teaching out of college but how it found her. We also talk about what it was like growing up as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adult) with both of her parents deaf. She brings us great perspectives on what her life has been like so far and how she now claims Tennessee as her new home.

We learn about her love of drawing and sewing as a child to now working with some of the top designers in the world on such shows as Project Runway and MTV's Siesta Key. This episode with Stefanie is a fascinating journey through the difficult world of fashion design and her resilience through personal circumstances and rediscovering her passion and creativity.

In this episode we are joined by Coach Andy Lyon, the head girls soccer coach at Motlow State Community College. Andy was born and raised in Nottingham, England and found his way to the U.S. coaching youth soccer with the MLS Soccer Camps.
